tx to all of you for all your answers, it s right that i should have done some more researches before posting , well i did go through all the documentation made availlable on the site and i'm planning on buying mcDaniels book as soon as possible.
I've been comparing all the pics from the docs to everything i found on ebay or else!!! I think i will be soon able to recognize an order of pat 1985 at first sight in low light with one of my eyes blocked;) Tx again to all of you for your patience with me |

Red star, new made no?
I have this red star, not a low number or something but i wounder if there have been a higher number before.
If you look at the scan you see that the number is placed very high. Have the old no been replaced?

Hi all,
I've been given this order of red star which appeared normal at first but when comparing to the other I own I noticed slight differences: The "old one" as a much darker enamel but I went to the first page of the forum and saw that all red star didn't have the same colour. The border of the silver badge in the centre is much wider than my first one. Went to the forum photo resources and didn't find something matching: all badges are straight edge while mine is sloppy (?). I include pics. Don t scream after me if the answer is obvious , i did my best to find out by myself even went to mondvor (don't read Russian and didn't find any pics!) The screw seem to have been repaired or something and one of the number is really deep. |

Looks like a typical WWII issue.
Enamel colors do vary... so do the Mint Marks... Looks fine. Rusty.

tx for your answer,
the other one i have is also WWII but is really different mmore i look at them more they look different: the which i sent the pics have a thicker silver badge and the mint markings are much smaller on the back nearly half in size of the other. The reverse is posted before this reply , maybe you want a full pic? |

Hi,
could this be a duplicate Red Star without the "D" due the tiny serial number engraving? The numbers are only about 1-1,3 mm high. |

JensF.,
this is NOT a duplicate Red Star. The s/n on a duplicate red star is not done with the rotating tool, but rather stamped. Also, a cyrillic "D" is missing. Do a search on this Forum for "duplicate award" and you will see what I mean. http://soviet-awards.addr.com/forum/...uplicate+award Thanks, Eric

Hello, Gentlemen.
I'll start off by saying I am a complete novice to the Soviet collectibles. I bought this piece recently from an eBay dealer and assume it to be WWll issue from it's very low serial number. His auction stated that any Red Star with a serial number over 2,800,000 was a post-war piece. Anyway, I was excited to find this website and even happier to have the opportunity to post these pictures here. I would appreciate any comments either way on this piece to help me understand a little more about it. Are the stampings above the screw-post some sort of maker mark or mint mark? Robert |

mint mark
Robert,
Welcome to the forum. I think that you will find it most informative and it will help you in many different ways to understand and appreciate collecting Soviet awards. The mark above the screwpost is indeed a mint mark. You will find that most Red Stars have either Goznak, Mondvor or Monetny Dvor (like yours). If you are going to continue to collect Soviet awards, I might suggest that you consider purchasing Paul McDaniel's "The Comprehensive Guide to Soviet Orders and Medals". It retails in the neighborhood of $95.00 but well worth it! You might also look for it on ebay as it comes up occasinally. Good luck and happy collecting. You will find that most of the members of this fourm are extremely knowledgeable and eager to help you. Alanirvine |
