Re: Red Star.
It appears to be a very crude repair.

Re: Red Star.
Indeed, this sort of thing really ruins the order for me.

Re: Red Star.
I agree. There are other examples in better condition, and that is certainly one way of looking at it. However, crude repair notwithstanding, there is a unique and distinctive character to the order, in my opinion. The repair is only part of the story.

Re: Red Star.
At 70 years old, i think i will probably have had a lot cruder repairs done to me.
Still a beautiful piece, it's just had a hard life. Tom |

Hi,
I somehow like these custom repairs by veterans. Jens |

Re: Red Star.
Here is a low numbered ORS that I got for a REALLY great price today. What are your thoughts? I do see the repair on the screwpost. Do you all think that this one is most likely a long service decoration or do you think it could be something really good?
The number is 344,064 I got it for about 70 dollars. |

Re: Red Star.
Thats a nice one! I am pretty sure that it is a "real" award and it should be researched. :thumbsup
I got a Red Start # 390867 with the same "pebbled" back (the left one). Last edited by JensF.; 10-05-2012 at 01:30 PM. |

Re: Red Star.
Paul, it's much too early to be a long service award, probably awarded late 1943, and, in my opinion, certainly worthy of a research effort. You certainly got a good price!
As I recall, amongst Russian speaking collectors, there is a word used to describe the "pebbling" you and Jens observe on the reverse of your Red Stars. The word escapes me at the moment. Jens, here is a close relative, #390871. . . Note replaced enamel on the one arm. |
