In Gdansk Canal+ gets all kinds of stations. One I was watching last night was a Russian language station "K+". They were showing a movie, don't know the title, with a lot of Cossack dressed people. It was a lively movie but what was interesting was that throughout the movie, every guy was wearing medals of all kinds from WW2. Now this might have been for the movie but they were wearing them all as if it was normal everyday items like jewelry for women.
They were wearing them at all times (well probably not to bed but I don't know since they didn't show a bed scene). The movie seems to have been done in the 50's or 60's and shot in "color". Lapa, do you remember in your childhood seeing men walking around like this or was it just "commiwood"?

Jeff,
Even today, you still see old people wearing at least their ribbon plate, but also their actual medals. It was a pride thing in the FSU, so, you don't change things that deeply rooted in 15 years. Marc |

Although now, surviving vets usually just wear ribbon bars and maybe the 25th Anniversary of Victory znachok partially out fear of being robbed.

Paul,
Things have seriouly quieted down in this part of the world, but somehow, Western media doesn't seem very interested to report accurately the reality of everyday's life. Marc |
