Made of silver and enamels, produced in 1946.

Not often seen

Would love to know the criteria for this award.

The back plate is silver as well.

I actually expected this to be 30ties in origin due to its make up.

I was surprised it was 1946 manufacture, just to good for that time frame and austerity.

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

What you have is an earlier variation of this badge, made of .925 silver. Recently it became almost impossible to find in any condition.

It was considered a very prestigious award, so I am not surprised at the quality. They even used .925 silver in stead of the .875.

Alexei

According to Borisov, the badge was thought up as a follow-up to Radio Day, 2 May 1945. It was awarded for recognition of outstanding service relaed to any aspect of radios - design, manufacture, use, etc. It was awarded by several People's Kommissariats, and later Ministries, the NKO (defence), NKVMF (navy), NK Signals, NK Electrical Industry and the State Committee of Radiofication of the USSR. It was first awarded in April 1946 and was made at the Moscow Mint.

I have the bronze version which is still a nice badge. Unfortunately, Borisov does not say when they switched from silver to bronze.

Filled the knowledge gap

Basically if I see anything made in the thirties or there abouts, if it is artistic and not outrageously priced I will buy it.

Shoot first and ask questions later policy you could say, and tinghed with financial danger.

But I used to go back to the markets, I could never find the things again.

It has led to a few duffers but generally some good buys.

Thanks Shawn and Alexei for filling in the knowledge gap on this badge, I was sure when I saw it that it had to be good (but I do make mistakes)

Shawn sometime it would be great if you could post the bronze variation but I realise that you are away at this present time.

Regards Chris

Shawn, Chris,

What's interesting is that Borisov also doesn't indicate the mintage for this badge, he usually does.

Honored Radio Operator of the USSR

Guys,
This badge was on offer recently. From the picture on a dealers site I would say it is an Honored Radio Operator of the USSR 1946 type.
It is made of Brass with nice enamel work. On the reverse it is mint marked.
Maybe it's the scan/Photo but is anyone else suspicious of the glossy varnished looking finish to the badge?
No doubt there are fakes of this badge being made as well.
There is another version of this badge made of sterling Silver made in the late 1940s-early 50s.

Eddie.

Here is a silver-type MMD marked, with serial number 7614-- which suggests these should not be as rare as they are. ???

The enamel is quite nice, though brightening this to get rid of extra KB space gray background makes the red in the scan look blah. It isn't.

In this 1983 photo of a rather dyspepsic Major General Degtyarev, I can't tell which version he is wearing. When were they LAST handed out?
