Do any members collect the various State Prizes which replaced the Stalin Prizes?

Sergey,

Here's nice State Prize group that I have in my collection. These are Stalin Prize replacements.

Group of 3 documented State Prize Medals, two 2nd and 3rd class, to the same recipient. Includes:
- Two 2nd class State Prize Medals,
- One 3rd cl State Prize Medal,
- Small Gramotas for all three medals,
- Order of October Revolution with document dated 1971.

Small Gramotas were all issued to Evgeniy Komar in July 1962. They actually were given as a replacement for much earlier Stalin Prizes that he received in 1948, 1951 and 1953 accordingly.

Interestingly, although it clearly says in the books that "The State Prize was issued in 1948, 1952 and 1953" no such award even existed then. Those were undoubtedly Stalin Prizes, 2nd-3rd cl.

A new documents without any mentioning of Stalin was issued to him in 1962 - in a typical Soviet re-invention of history.

It's interesting to read the commendation for his awards. The one from 1948 is for "invention of turbogenerator ... with hydrogen-based cooling".

For the other two higher 2nd cl Prizes the description is more vague - say “for execution of the special task of the government” – code phrase that always covered a military related research or industrial project.

When I bought this group, I was told that this scientist was involved in some sort of H-Bomb-related project. I am not sure whether I should believe that or not, but the dates of his awards correspond to the dates when Soviet Union was working on it's first nuclear devices.

I guess I'll know the answer when I'll run some research on this group.

The folders for the Gramotas for 3rd and 2nd class State Prizes are covered in nice leather with gold embossing "Diploma for the Winner of State Prize of the USSR".

Second picture is the cover of the actual Gramota.

Inside of 3rd and 2nd class State Prizes.

Note the dates of initial issue of the Prizes - 1948, 1951 and 1953 - the original Stalin Prizes. They all were replaced in 1962 for State Prizes.

The last one - 2nd class Stalin prize replacement:

Best regards,
New World

Great pieces with wonderful provenance, thanks for posting them. I understand that the State Prize continues to this day. Does anyone have an exemplar of the current version?

Hi

Is the S/N on a state prize is the same as the Gramota?

Another 1st class, Same number on medal and document:

You can see 2nd and 3rd class. They are different in the design than the 1st class.

Tal,

I can post the document if you like, but it looks fairly much the same as the other two. I was a bit confused because the design of the first class is so different to the second and third class, so I didn't quite realize this made the set. Now everything is clear.

Except......What about these Stalin and Lenin prize medals? The Stalin medal was supposed to have been withdrawn and replaced with the State prize medal?, correct? What about the Lenin one? There also seems to be three classes of the Stalin one, but I don't know anything about the Lenin one.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

Thanks for posting this. I am currently in the Republic of Georgia where I bought a 1st class Stalin replacement state prize medal. I have been looking for documentation of this medal, but have been unable to find it. Nice to know others collect the same stuff where I can see a picture of the medal and document. :)
