KGB Museum

The only modern generals uniform in the KGB museum in moscow is for Chebrikov (I think!)....clearly shows his RED, not blue, piping.

I think ( am not sure) that the uniform was Viktor Chebrikov's; can't get a closer shot as you are not allowed to take photos or video in the KGB museum; i stayed near the end of the bunch and snagged a few.

I did a search to find this thread, in the hope of answering a question, but it doesn't seem to be here. So...

Does anyone know when the KGB Generals began using stars on shoulder boards as insignia of rank?

boards

what do you mean by KGB generals? By that, I am saying that all generals got shoulderboards in 1943 so NKVD / NKGB generals (commissars) would have been among them...when the NKGB went to the MGB and then the KGB they never gave up the boards. Did you mean an exact date?

Sorry, Doug, that wasn't clear.

What I am wondering is whether there was a time when NKVD/MGB Generals would have worn blue piped boards with stars, such as on a model kitel, after they did away with the "zig-zag" boards of the commisar rank.

blue

yes, for at least a time NKVD troop generals and MGB troop generals did have the blue piping. Although not an absolute, the stripes were only for NKVD generals in the NKGB, troop generals having no stripe. So, you could have no stripe boards in 1943 through about 1946/7. Below is one on my list, for an MGB troop general. A short lived uniform.

I have a rather silly question here...
One of my best suppliers (Ukrainian) shown me an interesting thing this month.
Here's the story:
When he served in the army he once got sick (nothing unusual) and when he was in the hospital he met a soldier from a representative division, more specificaly, a cavaleryman from a regiment that was a part of it (I have even seen the collar insignia he got from the guy) and he said, that not only cavalerymen in that division wore dark-blue-coloured insignia. Wether it is true or not... (prepeare for a crazy theory)... What if a cavalery officer became a general (for me it is logical that a division has to be led by a general)? What uniform would he wear?
Wouldn't it be something like those "KGB" (of course not in such numbers)?
Try not to lough too loud.
