Visiting And Shopping Inside And Outside The Former Soviet Union.
Gentlemen, I ask again (and again...) for your kind help:
My dad is now at Gdansk for work reasons. As a good-behaving and uninterested son that am I ![]() Is in that city a place where he can find soviet(or bulgarian, or DDR, or mongolian, or any other of "those" countries)militaria so he can bring me some stuff from his trip? Regards from my f***ing city, Esteban

Sure, I was there in August and got some real nice medals and orders as well as a Soviet navy uniform, not only Soviet items but also Polish stuff. I dont have the address right now (I am at work) but I will check when I get home and post the address for at least one quite good shop in Gdansk. Another tip is for him to keep an eye open for street sellers.
regards, Patrick |

collecting in Northern Poland
Have to be careful as well - I have gone to Gdansk/Gydnia area several times over past 2 years - stuff can be difficult to find and there is a lot of junk. You have to know specifically what you are looking for- hopefully your Dad has an eye for collecting? I did see a fair amount of DDR stuff - but I collect Soviet, Polish VM - and those items were limited
PS = If you Dad is into history at all - can't beat touring the old WW2 warship located pierside near the movieplex at Gydnia Harbor. Dan S.

Worth to mention regarding soviet items: there are a lot of fakes around, among the items I got was at least two fakes (a Defense Kiev and a Defense Odessa). regards, Patrik |

I am just wandering... How much do they charge You for e.g. stuff from 80's (I doubt they have much earlier things) there?
I have observed (at least here, in the south) that price is different if You speak polish (or russian if dealing w/russians) and haggle than when you speak german and show a wallet full of euros... Just curious. Last edited by Al-muell; 10-27-2003 at 06:34 AM. |

Al-Muell, when I was there I simply asked in russian for "orders and medals of the USSR". However, in the shop I mentioned above, all orders and medals were priced with stickers so it was no big difference...
Esteban, I have lost the reciept from the store, but I managed to find the plastic bag that I got with my purchases. Here is the adress: Sopocki Dom Aukcujny (auction house?) Ulitsa Dluga 67/68 Gdansk Try it out - I hope it is the correct place! =) /Patrik |

Interesting. I didn't know of such shop, but I haven't been to those cities for a few years.
"Sopocki dom aukcyjny" = "Auction house of Sopot" |

The Sopocki Dom Aukjyjny has stores in the following cities as well:
Ulitsa Boh. Monte Cassino 43 Sopot ("stretched out" town between Gdynia and Gdansk) Ulitsa Grodzka 6 lp. AND Rynek Glowny 45 Krakow They have a website also, www.sda.pl (I could not find any awards there, they seem to have just art and paintings "online") I love Poland, it was so nice when I was there last time! Warm, sunny, friendly people. Will absolutely go there again. /Patrik |

¡THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!
![]() ![]() If there is a way to show my appreciation for your efforts, please let me know! P.S: Well, not "any" one. If we talk about cash affairs, in that I fail...
