Nice one Doc. That's one of the rarer variations with the non-Cyrillic script if I'm not mistaken.

ALTAN GADAS in mongolian is name of Polar Star.

Anyone else seen anything like this? As best as I can figure, someone took a lathe to the back of this Polar Star to "harvest" some silver and, in the process, sheared off the rivets. Now with a multipiece star, they got some ugly epoxy (visible 1-6 O'clock) to put it back together. Still looks ok on a uniform but...jeez.

Could you please post better pictures, it is close to impossible to distinguish anything here.

Could it be that they started replacing original backplate stars with fake ones :confused:

I'll play with it and maybe try the scanner. the grinding left some wierd glares on the back so it's hard to photograph.

I agree that the images are not very helpful, but also know the problems in getting clear ones online. When recently in Ulanbaatar, I was struck by the almost total absence of nice pieces (even at irrational prices) and the large quantity of broken and damaged bits and pieces of awards that were around. Maybe someone is taking these parts and trying to make up ugly and unskillful orders?

Tried it with my work camera. Should have done that in the first place instead of using my ebay camera.
