What can you tell me about these two?

I've got a chance to aquire these two. I don't neccessarily think either are "fake", I just need a bit of help.
One is an honored railway employee badge that seems to have an enamel chip and a repaired screwpost. Other than being ugly (which isn't always bad) I think it's just fine but the condition ought to devalue it a fair amount. Maybe 50% do you think?
The school diamond I can't readily identify but I'm guessing generally 70s/80s era, unofficial and nickle silver?
Any thoughts or comments are invited as are thanks in advance for your help.

The academy badge is worth what you want to pay for it (minimum 30% lower than anything in Avers).:)

Why do you call these "Private Purchase" and "Unofficial"???

Educational institutions had a choice (limited, true, but nevertheless) of possible suppliers: the official mints (LMD, MMD) and other badge manufacturing companies (Pobeda, LenEmaler, etc). Some educational institutions ordered their graduate badges from the mints, some from those companies (which were all at the time - need I remind you - state owned, so no private enterprise to be seen anywhere).

Because with no Red Book to guide us on this all I have is the theories floated in places like this to go on.
My understanding was the graduates, post 1950 something, bought these themselves hence the term 'private purchase'. Maybe my terminology is incorrect.

As far as I know, graduates received their diploma and a badge upon graduation; no need to run around purchasing you "private" badge. By the way, that practice kept going on to at least the mid-1990's (my wife got her graduation badge this way back then...).
