Guys,

It is not known exactly when this type of ring was stamped, but most likely it is a WWII or early post-war issue. Known post-war issues have perfectly round stamped ring. Please see a scan for comparison.

Victory over Germany and japan

bought these back before i knew anything. i feel realllllyyyy stupid.

but, i am wondering more about the medals themselves, if the medals are real, what can i do with them? nothing? something? thanks for any help

about the images, it is the backs of both of the medals, for some reason, the are different sizes for the fronts.

but as a description of the mountings, they are glued (?) ribbons going the wrong way, and there is a felt backing. i would love somebody to look at the front pictures of these medals, please PM me if you might be willing to take a closer look. thank you everyone!

Marc

While fakes of these medals do exist, I've never seen one, so I don't know what to look for. I have seen medals with felt-backed suspensions before, but I don't know exactly why they turn up this way. My guess is that it a veteran thing. They did make millions of these, so the odds are good that your medals are kosher.

wel, the problem with the theory of the veterans (something i considered) is that the ribbons are wrapped the wrong way, and they aren't wrapped, they ae glued to the suspension, the suspension itself is a crudely cut smaller than normal 5 sided. and the front of the ribbon is rater yucky with glue that has seeped through the years? months?

i am pretty sure it is not a veteran's set, but then again anything is possible!

Hi Marc!
Learn to deal with it. :relax I'd bet all of us have done something stupid before. I know I do it on a daily basis.

> but, i am wondering more about the medals themselves, if the medals are real, what can i do with them? nothing? something? thanks for any help
Are these both a bright, silvery color instead of the brass (or gold wash) color?

> about the images, it is the backs of both of the medals, for some reason, the are different sizes for the fronts.
I don't quite understand what you're trying to say here.

> but as a description of the mountings, they are glued (?) ribbons going the wrong way, and there is a felt backing.
This is very strange! Not because of what you describe but because I saw an exact copy of what you have here at my dealer's shop. I thought it was the most unique thing I ever saw. Strange...:weird

> i would love somebody to look at the front pictures of these medals,
Put 'em here, I think a few of us would like to see.

i would post the scans of the front of the medals, BUT the scans of the fronts are larger than the scans of the back (in terms of KB) so the scans of the front are to big to fit here on the forum.

as for the coloration, one is a gold wash, the other is perfectly silver all the way around

let me play around with the size of the scans of the front and i will get back with you guys. i am in class for the next 7 minutes and when i get back to the dorms i'll take care of it :thumbsup

thanks!

The Japan looks fine; it's a V2 BTW.
The Germany is weird. I've seen medals, that should be brass, showing up in a silver color. Doing a search for "felt" here I came up with the attached image (from dannybou) of a Koenigsberg medal with the silver color. I saw, the other day, a Caucasus the same way and also with the huge ring. It was also a VERY poor copy of the real medallion.
I don't know what the heck these things are are.
