Here is Red Star #3651581 which was awarded in May 1974 after the loss of a left hand in combat.

Surprisingly the centre of the order has been polished fairly bald. The recipient must have found a way to hold it whilst polishing it with his right hand. It certainly adds to the quirkiness of the Order.

Comrade Tillaev N. actively participated in the Great Patriotic War against Fascist invaders in the position of Rifleman. He fought for about 14 months and while showing bravery and courage, as evidenced by the severe wound he received 17th August 1943 in the left shoulder. The fact of injuries confirmed by a certificate of wounds #41/222 of 4th December 1944 Evacuation Hospital #3802. Wounded in the left shoulder, left hand lost. Invalid 2nd Group.
After the war continued to to work honestly and conscientiously in the national economy. Worked as a watchman, now is not working, no hand. Positive character. Authority in the collective enjoys. Ideologically aware.
Previously for awarding has not been presented.
Awarding him the Order "Red Star" is agreed with by the secretary of the Kalinin Regional Committee Of The Party Comrade Kambarov and President of the regional executive Comrade Tashhodzhaev.
Conclusion: For active participation in the Great Patriotic War and receiving a wound at the same time (No left hand) is worthy of awarding the Order "Red Star".

After doing a little research, the 1134th Rifle Regiment was under the 338th Rifle Division in the 33rd Army.

The date 17th August 1943 would coincide with the Second Battle Of Smolensk, specifically the Spas-Demensk Offensive Operation pushing towards Roslavl. The offensive of Gordov's 33rd Army was held off by Model's 9th Army.

I really like how tangible the injury is. We can all understand the injury and also how difficult it would be to find a solid long term vocation afterwards.
Although it says "No left hand" after "Injured in shoulder" it doesn't really convey the full picture. It is quite obvious that losing a hand at the wrist would not be as debilitating as losing the entire arm from the shoulder.

Certainly a very different Red Star than one awarded for 15 years administrative service.

Just as I was considering framing this group of an Order and 4 Medals I found out it wasn't complete.

The 338th Rifle Division saw very heavy losses on 17th August 1943 whilst participating in the Spas-Demensk Operation of the Battle Of Smolensk. Spas-Demensk was liberated on the 13th.

An interesting note is that Roza Shanina would join the 338th the following year.
