Dolf and William,

The quality of the scan from EBay is horrible to say the least. As I mentioned before, I requested very good scans of his Republic awards which is why they look much nicer.

William, regarding authenticity, maybe fake, I don't know for sure. The dealer who had it listed had excellent feedback and was selling many other high end awards at the time. I haven't seen more than two of these in my lifetime, so I am sure it is possible it is fake. Would like to see more of them, particularly in the number range of the flat-back. Anyone else have an opinion on authenticity?

BTW Dolf, I really like this award too. It has some beautiful symbolic elements. I particularly like the cotton plants at the bottom with the "cotton tufts" of white enamel.

This Azerbaijani Red Banner of Labor is imho the one I like the most from all these recently RBL you posted. What is your favourite?

Thanks a lot for posting them.

Best,

Dolf

Art,

Yes, it is indeed a marvellous piece.
Those cotton plants and cotton tufts make me remember my old childhood days in Africa, when I used to go with my father on his hunting week ends and we often had to cross huge cotton fields, a beautiful image I still keep in my mind :)
But the entire Award is really fascinating, a master piece of design!
In fact there is something in this Award that reminds me of some African shields, maybe it's the shape as well as those two spears, I don't know!

Anyway, red is my favourite color, so these Soviet Awards, where the red is very often present, really fulfill me ;) That's probably one of the reasons I like the Soviet Order of the Red Banner so much, red on the Order, red on the ribbon...

Best,

Dolf

From the archive of pictures:
Order number 47

Interestingly - this one is for sale (NJ area...), but the pictures of number 47 are NOT from his website - I have them for years and I don't remember were from. Might be ebay.

Tal,

There are quite a few different details between these two:
the h&s, the houses, the size of the star on top, just to name a few.
Any reason for this?

Thanks,

Dolf

Dolf,
I've got a feeling that the same thing applies to this Order as with the Red Banner of Labour from the Ukraine.
Made by more than one shop and so small differences will be noticed between the Awards.

Good question Esteban,

Marshal Budenny recived the Usbek Red banner and the Azerbaijan Red banner
and I think in earlier pictures he wore them.
A good later pic would show how many Red banner of Labour ribbons he had.
A lot of these early Red Banners where issued with a plain red rosette.

Eddie.
