Cases for orders
How would I go about finding cases for my orders? I feel that they would be good for protection as well as add a bit to my display. Are these really expensive(I Sure hope not!)?

Re: Cases for orders
Do you mean original issue Soviet cases or just generic protective cases?

Re: Cases for orders
Those are harder to come by. Post a wanted ad and maybe someone might have some. I've got only 2-3 left, but I don't know when I'll have access to them.

Original red boxes...
The original cases won't protect the awards very well. They were red carboard boxes (but blue for the MH) that fit the doc fairly snugly, but the order/medal would be loose in the box. If you want to protect them, you can order small plastic bags that fit either medals or docs pretty closely.
The original boxes are mostly just good to have a complete set. Like Desantnik said, they are hard to come by because they do not stand up to time very well. I may have a couple at home also, but I'm traveling now and won't be home for a couple weeks. ...Brian |

Re: Cases for orders
Thanks guys! I would want them to complete some sets then. If anyone wants to part with any, please tell me what era you have and I can check to see if my orders are from the same period.
Regards Paul PS... how can I change my profile so that I will be notified when I receive a response? Mine is not working for some reason. |

Re: Cases for orders
I have a red box that held the documents for the awards of a WW2 naval officer. On this box, his name is printed with typewriter onto a label. I am willing to sell this as a set, his box and documents. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Re: Cases for orders
I've got several floating around now, but I frankly have no idea what a fair price is. :)

Re: Cases for orders
I have no idea, as I have never seen a case before. I guess it would depend upon the order, the era of the box, and the condition. Can you please post some photos? Sorry for the delay in getting back. I have been deployed.

Re: Cases for orders
It'll be a while before I can photograph them, but I'll see what I can do. You'll also find numerous photos here on the forum of these boxes.
I wouldn't call them cases really. They are red sorta-cardboard boxes, and were used for most awards (orders and medals) except for the Mother Heroine, which had a series of three blue boxes (one for large doc, one for small doc, and one for MH star). With all of these, they'd be easily crushed if you sat on them or slammed a fist down on them, unlike the plastic cases you'll see from later awards in some countries. I've probably got spares of all (the red ones and the MH ones), but I don't know how long I'll have access to them. I'm moving soon, so all my odds 'n' ends are getting packed up. |
