The 5th Class of this Order was on a ribbon and not a breast Star like the other 4 Classes. All the ribbon bars had the small attachment apart from the 5th Class which had just the plain ribbon.
Eddie. Order of the Flag of HPR 5th Class.

Order of the Flag of the Hungarian Republic
In the period of the Hungarian Republic there was just 4 Classes.
1st Class - Magyar Köztársaság gyémántokkal éksített Zászlórendje Order of the Flag of the Hungarian Republic with Diamonds (1956-91) 2nd Class - Magyar Köztársaság rubinokkal éksített Zászlórendje Order of the Flag of the Hungarian Republic with Rubies (1956-91) 3rd Class - Magyar Köztársaság babékoszorúval éksített Zászlórendje Order of the Flag of the Hungarian Republic with Laurel Wreath (1956-91) 4th Class - Magyar Köztársaság Zászlórendje Order of the Flag of the Hungarian Republic(1956-91) The awarding of these two Orders seem to overlap. Just why this is I have yet to find out. All of these 4 Classes had the ribbon attachment as in the first pic. Important dates in Hungarian History 1944 The Nazis occupied Hungary, as they did not consider it a reliable ally. During the Second World War, the Hungarians suffered grave losses on the Soviet front. At the end of the war, Fascists took over the governing of the country. 1945 The Soviet Army liberated, then occupied Hungary. At the hastly held elections, the Communists gained only 17 percent of the votes. 1947 The last, relatively free election was followed by the years of Communist control: show trials, executions, forced settlement of hundreds of thousands, imprisonment, harassment, forced industrial development, a drop in living standards, and Stalinist dictatorship. 1956 A revolution against Stalinism. The uprising was defeated by Soviet troops. János Kádár, who acquired power with their assistance, promised democratic socialism; in the meantime, retaliation and executions started. 1965 The new system became consolidated, and cautious economic reforms were launched. Living standards were rising and the iron curtain became penetrable. 1988 The Hungarian transition period began. 1990 The Communist party voluntarily gave up its autocracy. A multi-party parliamentary democracy came into being in the country. The Soviet army left Hungary. 1999 Hungary became full member of NATO. Eddie.

They are nice awards, and quite rare. Generaly these awards were delegated to foreigners, though in some instances they were awarded to Hungarians. It was the only award to be issued during the HUPR that was devoid of any red stars. Hence it was carried over for a short period after 1989.

Anyone know how I might go about finding some more information about the set I have. The document was issues in 1965 and given the number issued, there must be some record of who these were awarded to. Does anyone research Hungarian Awards?
Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

Shane,
Your set belonged to Sergije Makiedo, veteran of the Tito uprising against the Germans, high-ranking official of different administrations of Yugoslavia, charge d'affaires in Washington, ambassador of Yugoslavia to Hungary etc... Do a search on Google. Regards from Hungary, Sandor Molnar Quote:
