Re: Fake Medals for Bravery
Shouldn't this one have a smaller ring? And how can this be an April 1945 award??

Re: Fake Medals for Bravery
Hi Norm,
This should be a Type 1 Version 3 medal according to the serial number. Details from the MONDVOR site below. The suspension and tightening nut are the same as the previous version. The threaded pin can be made from silver or bronze. The serial number is stamped in the form of “12345" (“No” absent). Early medals had a small loop (not more than 5.25 mm) whereas later examples had bigger loops (5.5 - 6.25 mm). The letters in the words "FOR COURAGE" and the"USSR" are not filled with enamel, but by varnish which does not completely fill the letters. The medal is thick (approximately 3.0 mm) and the height of the numbers of is 2.5 mm. The minimum known number for this version is 50,075 and the maximum is 210,563. Some medals of this version have thick brass suspensions (e.g. # 83207, 97245 & 118131). Similar variations are seen in the Medal for Combat Service. A quick series of measurements should sort things out. Simon |

See da pic below. Ok, the 7 looks off but how many perfectly stamped serial numbers on BM's are perfect? How's the patina on this one. It was a concern also. :D Last edited by Norm Braddock; 08-08-2010 at 05:29 PM. |

Re: Fake Medals for Bravery
Patina: a little weird, but possible given the right (or wrong) storage conditions - to my mind at least.

Marysha, Natasha or Olya did not have anything to do with the stamping; the punches themselves are WRONG. In other terms, you are most likely holding in your hands a genuine T3 from which the original struck ring was removed and replaced by a weird-looking one, on which a fake SN was punched, and half a gallon of premium Patina-in-a-Bottle™ was poured  Marc |

Sorry,
I have to agree with Marc. The ring of the Bravery medal looks to big, the figures looks wrong especially the 7 looks not correct. regards Andreas |

I think this Bravery medal is also bad. Old serial number was removed and a new one stamped in to fit with the award book.
The serial number is 2 mm high, like a duplicate but the letters look wrong. Any opinions? best regards and thanks Andreas |
