Order "For Service To The Motherland".
Order "Motherland" of Belarus looks almost identical to the Soviet order Service to Motherland. Belarusian Service order also comes in 3 classes.
Overall, it looks like Belarus decided to adopt - at least partially - awards of the formes USSR with some modifications. Here's 2nd class: William Last edited by new world; 02-10-2004 at 10:16 AM. |

3rd class Motherland order. Resemblance to the Soviet brother is scary...

Order "For Service To The Motherland".
Modern award system of Belarus preserved some Soviet orders and medals including the hero title and "For Bravery" medal. I found it especially interesting that the order "For Service to Motherland in Armed forces of USSR" was preserved as well with some modification in the appearance. Those awarded "F.S. to M. in A. F. of USSR" of lower class are awarded the next higher class of Belarus order!

Alexei:
I was surprised that Belarus resurrected O For S to M. According to all sources, this award was unpopular and was considered esthetically unattractive: bleak, oversized, crab-shaped. On the other hand, it makes sense. This order was created to reward officers for accomplishments in peace time and this is was Belarus needs, being a country at peace. I was extremely excited by the fact that new awardees who already have Soviet version of the order are awarded the next higher class. Other forum member don't seem to share my excitement :( Russia and other former republics preserved elements of Soviet system, but this case is unique - the class awarded depends on whether the individual has been decorated with a Soviet order. Essentially, a Soviet order is treated as a part of Belarus decoration hierarchy! Simon |

Simon,
I am guessing it probably has some nostalgic value to them :) Alexei |
