Bob,
Marshal Sergeev never had soviet marshal uniform. He has never been marshal of SU.

I agree with Eugene, Sergeyev was never Marshal of SU.

Here's Sergeyev as a General of Army of Russian Federation.

Here's better shot of Marshal Sergeyev uniform - he's definitely wearing Russian Federation type, note eagles on the shoulderboards.

Kulikov

Marshals of the USSR never really retired; they went into the reserve and retained most of their rights, etc. So, marshals of the USSR who were alive when the tranisition happened still retain their rights, and even title of Marshal of the USSR, but not really a Marshal of Russia. The confirmation of this is this great shot of good old Marshal of the USSR Kulikov wearing a Russian marshals uniform with Marshal USSR shoulderboards. Odd combination, not to last long I'd say.

Couple of points.

1. Firstly, the laurel and oak leaves on the lapels face in the oposite direction to Soviet tunics...any paticular reason for this?

2. The bloke in the above photo, is he not the same person who models the uniforms in the Europa boks on Soviet Uniforms?

Here's Marshal Yazov in recent photo - at the Cuban Missile Crisis 40 yrs Annyversary Conference in Havana, Cuba - 10-12 October 2002.

As you can see - he's wearing Marshal of SU boards on his uniform.

Any ideas who's Marshal sitting next to Yazov? Would that be Marshal Petrov?

MSU Yazov has no other clothes?!

Is he allowed to wear the uniform of MSU more than a decade after the USSR is no longer exist?

What about the outcomes of his trial?

VikingR,

yes, the guy in the M1940 generals uniform is re-enactor/author/model/colelctor/dealer Anton Shalito, one of the pioneers of Soviet cloth; i have met hima few times; mixed results. The collar tabs on the new russian uniforms face the opposite way; just cause they want them to.

new World,

the other guy is General of the Army Gribkov, if memory serves....he is not a full marshal, but has thelarge star and baranch insignia of a general of the army.

DougD,

Thanks for the info! General of Army boards look so similar to the ones of Marshal.

Is General of the Army Gribkov currently in active duty?

Gentlemen,

I came accross very recent photo (taken just few days ago) of Marshal of SU Kulikov - he's pictured in the Duma (Russian Parliament) with his fellow Deputies.

From what I can see - it looks like he's wearing Marshal of Russian Federation uniform (note similar style as Sergeyev's, as well as Russian flag on the left sleeve).

I am confused now - how come he's allowed to wear current Russian Federation uniform?

Best regards,
William
