Medal For Merits To Defence Of The Country.
(Medal Za Zaslugi dla Obronnosci Kraju)
This Medal was instituted by act of Parliament of April 21st, 1966 the design was changed in 1991. Awarded in three grades by the Minister of National Defense to military personal and civilians for meritorious activities in strengthening the military power of the country. Medal 1966-1991: a gilt, silvered or bronze medal, diameter 38 mm. Obverse: contour of Poland with a Polish eagle sitting on the Amazon shield, on the outer rim is the inscription ZA ZASLUGI : DLA OBRONNOSCI KRAJU (for merit for defense of the country). Reverse: inscription MINISTERSTWO / OBRONY / NARODOWEJ (Ministry of National Defense), rim inscription POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA (Polish People's Republic). Medal since 1991: gilt, silvered and bronze medal, diameter 36 mm. Obverse: a semicircular shield with a crowned eagle sitting on the Amazon shield, surmounted by a closed knight's helmet; the whole surmounted by the inscription ZA ZASLUGI DLA : OBRONNOSCI KRAJU. Reverse: a two row inscription WOJSKO / POLSKIE (Polish Army), with an ornament above and below.

Here is a Bronze Medal which was awarded in 1973. Very similar in quality to American Lordship Industry or Graco items of the same period (for those more familiar with American awards).
