MfS Civilian Group

Here's a small group belonging to a civilian employee of the MfS; specifically Ewald Judes. A small mistake has been made where the calligrapher has begun his name with an "H" instead of a "J" (probably not familiar with Jewish names), and enlarged the J to compensate. Anyway, it consists of a Silver grade Merit Medal and doc with Minister Mielke's stamped signature awarded on 7 September 1969. What sets this apart from similar awards is that the medal is 900 silver (see inset).

Thanks and no, I don't have any other documents... yet. Gives me yet another something to look for ;-)

Well OK... I looked and I found. By chance I was able to acquire another award doc for Ewald Judes through a dealer in Berlin that I've used before. No medal with this one, but I do have a correct version of the medal on the way. This is a 5 year NVA doc from 8 February 1968. It did come with the mappe. Note the similarity in lettering style (calligraphy); probably done by the same person a year before the doc in post 1.

Finally located a 5 year service medal that matches the document (Bartel 151c- produced from 1960 through 1966; no changes from this version until 1972). So, here's the group as it stands. This may, MAY, be complete at this point but I'll keep looking ;-)
