Re: Researching Red Army/Navy Units
Big ask,
But could could anyone maybe check Echoes to see if Glory 3974xx or BM 24478xx would fall into any ranges of the capture of Vienna? My lack of echoes is a situation I need to rectify quickly! Tom |

Re: Researching Red Army/Navy Units
I know this is a particularly long shot but has anyone ever encountered researched awards to members of the 88th Independent Rifle Brigade. I know the unit had a minimal combat role as the 25th Army marched into the Great Empire Of Manchukuo in mid-August 1945 but there are all those highly desirable awards for good service etc.
On a slightly related note - Kim Il-Sung (a battalion commander) was not awarded a OPW '85.

Re: Researching Red Army/Navy Units
I have encountered a few actually. Is there any particular reason you ask?

Re: Researching Red Army/Navy Units
Rather interested in the feats of the unit as there is the mythology around it. Most of the members of this brigade were not ethnic Soviets but Koreans or Chinese citizens in exile that will most likely have returned "home" after Communism had triumphed in Korea and China. If the recipients returned home after their service the journey to the open market would also be different as both Korea and China still have those governments.

Would anyone out there know the composition of the 4th Tank Division and 7th Tank Division of the 6th Mechanised Corps, 10th Army, Western Front? I believe they were both formed on 15th July 1941 and disbanded 19th September 1941. I don't think they ever got up to more than 20% strength due to the speed of the German invasion but that won't be the same "on paper".
Also would anyone know the number of the shoe workshop under the 2nd Rifle Division (-9/1941 Formation)? Also the Field Bank number of the 17th Rifle Division (The formation that was destroyed within the first 3 weeks of the invasion)?

Thank you for filling that blank. Some of the records from the first weeks are rather blurry.
Would anyone know the units of the 3rd Army's 11th Mechanised Corps (Disbanded 19/9/1941) I know it consisted of; 29th Tank Division (Disbanded 14/7/1941), Subunits unknown. 33rd Tank Division (Disbanded 14/7/1941), Subunits unknown. 204th Motorised Division (Disbanded 19/9/1941), Subunits unknown. It seems that the infantry, cavalry and air regiments are easier to pinpoint than the Tanks. The 3rd Army shrank (units on paper - without mention of manpower) from 12 Divisions and 4 Regiments down to only 6 Divisions and 3 Regiments in less than 4 months. Before Zhukov did some shuffling of the Front. Also the subunits of the 3rd Army's 17th Mechanised Corps; 27th Tank Division (Disbanded 1/8/1941) 36th Tank Division (Disbanded 1/8/1941) 209th Motorised Division I have also come across a strange position that seems nonsensical. Platoon Commander, 4th Separate Brigade, 336th Rifle Regiment, Trans-Caucasus Front (early 1943). I can't find a 4th Separate Brigade other than the 4th Separate Brigade Of Naval Infantry but that was Baltic Fleet. The 336th Rifle Regiment was part of the 5th Rifle Division pushing to Kursk from Moscow as part of the Brjansk Front at the time so that also doesn't fit. An almighty administrative error or am I missing something?

I have an OPWII Class. I have the ARC and citation and will soon have the service record. I am looking for information on where he served when awarded his OPWII and ORS. The OPWWII ARC shows he served with the 87 Perekop Rifle Regiment, 55 Rifle Corps, 2 Guards army, 1 Baltic front dated 15.5.44. the ORS lists his unit as the 63 Rifle Corps dated 10.6.45. I don't have the ORS research yet to be more specific with the ORS. I need to know where these units served on those dates. battle maps would be helpful too.
Where can I find out information about the following unit? 1134 Rifle Regiment, 338th Rifle Division, 33rd Army I need this information for a Journal article I am writing. Proper credit will be given. :thumbsup:thumbsup Doc |
