Soviet Naval Orders - Orders of Ushakov and Nakhimov

Just got this book by Durov and Pavlikov, printed in Moscow in 2005 in the mail yesterday. It's large format, 141 pages in full color. Price: $20 (on eBay)

Review: This book is about two of the orders that I will never be able to afford - the orders of Ushakov and Nakhimov. Despite that fact, I can still look at them and drool, which I have done extensively since purchasing this book! The pictures are excellent. They have numerous photos of the front and reverse of the two awards in both classes, order books, photos of holders of the awards, and (something I think that's really neat) photos of the award cards for these same officers! Plus, they finish the book with an in-depth history of Admirals Ushakov and Nakhimov; the regulations awarding the awards; observed weights of actual awards seen; finally, listing (by serial number) of all (I think) the recipients of both awards!

The only drawback is that the text is all in Russian, which makes it difficult to read for those of us who aren't fluent. But, the illustrations are good enough to outweigh the text, I think.

This is a very nice book, and well worth whatever the asking price is for it. It has my definate endorsement!
