I think the best advice is just to keep your eyes open. The "unfinished" example I got was $8 from someone who had no clue what they had. A good reason not to be blinkered.
Usually when prices for items are quoted it is by someone wanting that amount for the item. As I almost never sell items (everything is usually kept or given away for free) I don't suggest inflated prices for items and if I can purchase them for the prices I do anyone can. Keep your eyes and options open. Time is a luxury we have.
