Hier Spricht Radio PMR.

I found this book through a large on-line book dealer that I thought anyone with an interest in the PMR might want to hear about. The name of the book is, "Hier Spricht Radio PMR, Nachrichten Aus Transnistrien" or, "This is Radio PMR, News From Transnistria". It is written in German, English and Russian and is, essentially, a photo-documentary (somewhat similar to the Life series of days past) done by two German authors (Kramar and Marcell Nimfuhr) with a PMR national (Andrey Smolensky) and was published in 2007.

No particular reference to awards or badges, although there are several photos of GPW and civil war veterans wearing their awards. It deals primarily with the question, "What is Pridnestrovie?", her economy, her politics and perhaps some insight on where she may be headed. Nice to know a bit about the country and the people whose awards you are collecting.

As there is pitifully little information (at least in one place) about the PMR, I am glad to have this. I'm providing an image of the cover (sorry about the glare of the on-camera flash).

Re: Book on the PMR

Interesting book. One for us all to keep our eyes open for.
It doesn't happen to mention anything about the Railway at all does it?
If I were to be interested in obtaining any uniform in the world it'd be for the PMR Railway.

Re: Book on the PMR

Am now involved in actually reading the book (rather than simply looking at the photos); nothing dealing with the railroad yet. And, unfortunately, I have not seen any photos dealing with that aspect of the country. Most of the book, so far, has concentrated on the split, the ensuing civil war and the aftermath through 2007. As a great many photos show posters/backdrops of the 15 year celebration, I would say most coverage probably ends in 2005, giving the authors 2 years from beginning to publication.

I would love to see someone cover the PMR from 2007 to the present! Much happening there, from the election of a new, young President (Yevgeny Shevchuk, who replaced Igor Smirnov in 2011) as well as the appointment of Nina Shtanski, the "drop dead gorgeous" Minister of Foreign Affairs. Here's an image in her uniform to whet anyone's appetite to find out more about the PMR!
