Shashka with link to Khalkin Gol

Just wondering, how is the lettering made on the blade? Is it inlaid/soldered on letters of brass or some other metal, as it looks like there's lots of corrosion around the lettering, but not on the letters themselves.
Definately not etched, that's all I can say from the pics.

I am naturally sceptic to such blades, I have no comparison at all from other sources.
Most gifts I have seen have had placards attached with enscribed greetings, or inscribed blades on (post war) daggers.
