Wow Ed! Another great one Ed. This is the first "general service" award citation I have seen...
Basically, he is a good guy and did a good job over a certain amount of time. |

What I find unusual here is the fact that the attachment is an old-style brass one. Is it a replacement? Because to me it does not look correct for the era.

I'm certainly not an expert on suspensions, but I can guarantee that brass suspensions were handed out this late. For instance, both of my 1969 CMM's to Bulgarians and my 1971 CMM to a Mongolian are on a brass suspension.

I think it could be very easy to become more fixated on suspensions than anyone at the time ever was. Suspensions are just that, suspensions. I suspect they were seen as functional items, not as objects of manic obsession.

I tend not to feel at all comfortable with the idea of a "filler". Not quite faking, but, for me, close enough. That is just my view, though, and others have different thresholds. There is "good" behavior, there is "evil" behavior, and a really really broad "gray" area in between, and "fillers" fall there, I guess. Sadly, with most Soviet items, there is no easy way to tell. All I know is that the ragged medal and the ragged book came together from a reliable source, before the research was done. I'm not even sure DNA testing would answer the question. As far as I am concerned, I have no problem with this, but a "?" will always hang. A "?" not a "!!!!!!!!!!".
