Re: Order of glory set

Matthijs,

Bravery medal
OPW 2nd class
Bravery medal
Red Star
Order of Glory 3rd
Order of Glory 2nd
Order of Glory 1st

I doubt that these entries are genuine.

Re: Order of glory set

Thnx Marc,

Do you think this booklet is wrongt because of the date the medals were given? Are the numbers corresponding with the ranking?

Re: Order of glory set

Not being an expert, I'll give my opinions anyway.

First off it should be easy to check - the Cavaliers of the Order of Glory are all well documented. So that should settle it pretty quickly if someone with the right book weighs in.

Second, there's the "too good to be true" aspect. If real this is a phenominal group, even missing some awards.

Third, the numbers could arguably be correct; Echos of War doesn't directly contradict them. But... if the awards follow Echos then the soldier probably got all three OG and the Red Star in a two or three month period in early 1945. Perhaps spread over 4 or 5 months. But the OG III number is very high, and the OG I is very low, making the window they (again, probably) were issued in small. If real, then this 'one man army' should definitely be documented in the literature!

Fourth, the order book is an “A” prefix, 1945/46. Nothing extraordinary there. But it’s obviously written in one hand. He lost the original book, or it was replaced in toto by the post war book? Two years passed between all the awards – he probably did get an earlier one. And no stamps used in the final order book? Mostly just interesting that it’s very conveniently all neatly written out in one hand for such a range of awards.

Fifth, no medal bar? Somehow I doubt that a Cavalier led a life being incognito. But never bothered to get a bar for his awards, instead pinning them all on one at a time? Very conveniently keeping the old style hanger for the Bravery? Again, in my (limited) experience groups of that many medals tended to go onto bars, as well someone who kept getting awards after getting an early Bravery/Merit followed the regs and swapped the hanger for the new five sided. That would, of course, lessen the “cool factor” (and the price!) in 2008… but hey, how did they know? :)

Is the group for sale somewhere? If so, what are the circumstances? Inquiring minds want to know! :D

Yes, its for sale. I'm gonna look at this set one of these days. I think I'll make some proper pictures of this set so that I can show them to you all.

Re: Order of glory set

Guys,

The medals (some/all/none) may be OK, but I do not believe that the award booklet is kosher. Look at the OG2, very high number, yet OG1 with very low number just doesn't cut it. The order of awards is also rather strange, since they are entered chronologically.

Looking in the book will only give information about the orders received, and without details about such insignificant details as serial numbers
Last thing, given the quality of the picture, we can't say much regarding genuineness of the components. Need I remind you that the latest generation of fake OG1 from the Baltic states (once again...) is almost perfectly made in real gold; only microscopic details on the ribbon still differentiate the originals from the fakes
