GPW Soviet Navy buckle

Hi,

I have a Soviet Navy buckle. I believe it is from WWII, but I could be wrong. I have seen a couple similar buckles but they had a star at the top of the anchor. Mine has a circle. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eddie

This one is the model used during the WW2. It's distinguished by it's shape and narrow anchor.
Btw. - I don't think I have ever seen a buckle with a stat insteado of anchor's loop...

Hi,

Collect Russia has one with a star in the stock of the anchor. I am unsure as to what this small variation means. Here is a picture of it:

Thanks,
Eddie

Re: WWII Soviet Navy buckle

I have never noticed that before. But it is possible that this buckles varied in time - If I remember correctly, they were used between at least 1935 and 1956. But I have no idea about when the star was used.
Also it is possible, that in some factories they had the plans copied wrongly, and thus in some cities they would meke buckles with that stars, while in the other - without.
But that's just a guess.

Stalingrad

I am not all that into buckles, but I found this one myself when exploring the Stalingrad battlefields in 2002 (found more stuff back in 1998; much less in 2004).

Very beat up, but the fact I found it makes it priceless to me (girlfriend wants me to throw out that "rusty junk").

Re: WWII Soviet Navy buckle

If you take anything off a Civil War battlefield around my area, you sure better not let anyone see you do it. The National Park Service is no joke! They will bust you for looking at the ground for too long. Is it like that in Russia?

Thanks,
Eddie

Re: WWII Soviet Navy buckle

Eddie,

I know what you mean about US Park Service...they even spiked the grounds of certain battlefields with little metal 'bits' to throw off metal detectors.

In Russia I never had a problem in digging, though to be fair it was never in what I'd call a national park. The only issues I ever really faced were at the airports; tough for this stuff not to show up in airport metal detectors / scans.
