Short, concrete description of his combat feat or merits:
On July 9, 1944 he and his squad crossed the 400-meter-wide Vuoksi River under heavy enemy artillery fire. Upon landing he broke through to the forward enemy trenches and started forcing his way across them. Skillfully commanding his squad he pushed forward and repeatedly repelled Finnish counterattacks.
On July 11, 1944 he was wounded and hospitalized.
