Medals For Long Service In The Armed Forces.
The Republic of Yemen was established by proclamation on 22rd May 1990. It was created by merging the former Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen, Capital: Sanaa) which had become independent from the Ottoman Empire in 1918 with the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen, Capital: Aden) which had gained independence from the United Kingdom on 30 Nov 1967.
After more searching around I managed to find these two south Yemen medals. Note that these two medals also have a red star in the design which makes me think that red troopers medal could be North Yemen or Yemen after 22nd May 1990. (Pic co LM) Eddie.

Here is a 15 years service example. Considerably larger than the Soviet equivalent. Not common but not costly neither.
