Leather visor cap

Hello
Anybody knows if this leather visor cap was used before and during WWII? And which was the army branch that used it?

Reportedly used by the NKVD. I'd imagine that this one is a fake--looks brand new and the cap badge does too.

cap

Welcome to the forum.

The leather caps were used from 1917-late 1930's or so; they were not really a regulation item and although there might be isolted cases of use in WWII, the vast majority were in the 1920's and 1930's.

The one you have posted pics of is a modern copy out of Ukraine. They show up alot on the internet auctions.

Best,

Thanks
Of course, is a replica made in Ukraine. I purchased it for reenacting purposes, not as a piece of collection. And really, this cap give an interesting look to user...

Leather Visor

The word "fake" is used too much for my tastes. I would define it more as replica and leave it at that.

Ok, well, good point. I guess it depends on the context. If the hat is advertised as a ww2 item, then its "fake." If it is sold as a copy, then i agree its a reproduction. Perhaps its just semantics.

Leather Visor

Nack, I could not agree with you more. I guess I jumped the gun a bit due to the fact I have seen so many of these visors over the years and I could not imagine someone actually trying to sell a hat like this one as WWII. I have a 1967 Soviet made visor made for the 50th Aniversary of the Revolution and it looks better than this one. Yet, you could never sell my 1967 example as a WWII piece or original. I also have 2 leather pieces from 1919-1920 and they really look nothing like these replicas offered on Ebay periodically. After you handle a genuine leather visor, you can always know the difference. Sorry if I talked too much.

All good points. Unfortunately, there are quite a few unscrupulous sellers trying to pass off repro stuff as original, and people who haven’t actually seen a real item get taken all the time. Particularly when you are talking about a seldom-encountered item.

I'd love to see pictures of your caps, the real 20's leather caps I mean.
