I'm relatively new to Soviet collecting, as well, but, I've done more research on uniforms and caps - thanks to xxxxxxxxx
- than I have medals, orders, and other awards. I need help with the ribbon bars on this Colonel's uniform. I've tried identifying the first and third ribbons of the group, and have possibly learned by browsing the forums that the first is the Order for Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR, but am not sure. The third, I didn't see on this site, and I peeked at all the medals and orders looking for a corresponding ribbon. I haven't found one. So, I suppose my first post here is one for help...I'd greatly appreciate someone helping me on this, because I might ask the seller of the everyday service uniform if he has the medal group, with the parade uniform. Thanks. Michael Last edited by Art; 07-26-2003 at 07:29 AM. |

Welcome
No one has yet got time enough to help Nuclearmonkey, our new Forum member ?
So, let's go for this easy question : * 1st rank, from left to right : * Order for Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR - 3rd Class. * Jubilee Medal for the 100th Year Anniversary of Lenin's birth. * Jubilee Medal for 50 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR. * 2nd rank : * Jubilee Medal for 60 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR. * Jubilee Medal for 70 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR. * Medal for 50 Years of the Soviet Militia. * 3rd rank : * Medal for 20 years of Irreproachable Service in the Armed Forces of the USSR. * Medal for 15 years of Irreproachable Service in the Armed Forces of the USSR. * Medal for 10 years of Irreproachable Service in the Armed Forces of the USSR. Nuclearmonkey, welcome in this Forum, and as would certainly say its Moderators, please, take time to read and "surf" on it : you will certainly find an answer to many of the "classical" questions we all have had to ask ourselves in beginning collecting. Cheers. Ch. |

I think the ribbon bar is made up, for the reasons that were explained in the past, reagrding order od service to the homland and lack of any other order, such as red star etc. Could be genuine, but mosy likely a fantasy one.

I think it's a genuine group to a militia officer who served from 1966-67 (thus no 20 Years medal) through the fall of the USSR, which would also be the reason there are no other awards other than the Homeland 3rd. --Dave |

Did militia use Motor Rifle tabs, or did they use Justice tabs?

Nuclearmonkey,
the uniform you have looks like a motor-rifle colonel to me. Who told you it was militia? The tabs from the photo look red as do the shoulder boards. Are they in fact brick red? Anyway, in answer to your question, the MVD or militia used motor-rifle collar devices on a backing cloth of brick red. Judging by the collar tabs (and assuming the uniform is genuine - gotta be careful with all the fakes knocking about!) the uniform was manufactured post 1974, as the tabs gained a metal backing device after this time.

Nuclearmonkey was a victim of my editing skills. This thread was moved from General Talk and needed a title so I went by what I thought the uniform was being ID'd as..I will change the title of the thread accordingly.

ribbons..
...look fine, I don't think they are made up. The uniform is a classic late Soviet era infantry officer, a nice "starters" uniform, enjoy.
