Returning to this thread with some additional images. A pontoon troops major and a group of enlisted pontoon troops with the Pontoon Troops insignia visible on their epaulets. Note, too, the soldier on the right is wearing the Excellent Pontoonier badge. This is the first time I've come across one in wear.

Gents,

This photo dates to May 1974 and depicts naval Warrant Officer (Michman) V.G. Us. He was awarded his HSU title in January 1944 (as a Senior Sailor) for valor during operations to liberate the Crimea.

This photo is interesting in that it's very unusual to come across a HSU in the rank of naval warrant officer.

Indeed it is. And the shoulder boards would enjoy a visit to the tailor for a re-alignment, not to mention the oversized NCO chevron on the sleeves. If I had seen that tunic for sale I would have consider it a very odd bird.

Also worth noting:
The excellent soldier badge under his right lapel; sure looks like a star and wreath of the army variety as opposed to the navy's anchor.
And, the bass-akwards ribboning of the medal bar. When I see those it makes me cringe.

I have recently acquired a large lot of images, this one being one of the best, IMO, that shows the 1938 type of "Panama" hat in use.

Handwritten on the reverse is a greeting and the date of 7 July 1940.

...and the man on the left with his belt worn oppositely is noteworthy also. A persistently overlooked dressing detail IMO, even into the computer era.
