Long Cruise Badge

Hello All,

I believe the name of the cruiser is on the hanging part. Can anyone translate the name for me?

Nice brass (ship and jet may be aluminum) and enamels 4 piece badge (six if you count the hangers :D).

I think I'm getting the hang of this digital picture thing.

Tom,

The badge is for crossing the equator, and the ship's name is "Novorossiysk". There is a serie of those badges for crossing the ecuator and for good memories of service for every carrier in the Soviet Navy. I believe they are all fantasy pieces.

Timmey,

I don't think so, these badges are currently made in the Baltic states, and are obtainable in unlimited quantities. I have never seen one with genuine wear or patina.

Do you know how long they have been making them there, I have had mine a long time and it does have wear on it.
I have a very big collection of these; Long Cruise, Light Carriers, Nuclear Subs, Diesal Subs, KGB Spy Ships, Surface ships etc...
The enamel is emmaculate on these pieces.
I always thought they were genuine commemerative pieces, but not fantasy ones!
I know that they were not official military issued badges, (because I also collect those), but is there a market in fantasy pieces, I know of no one else that collects this stuff like I do?
As an example; there are over 30,000 members to AK-47.nets chat room compared to 137 here, is there a market for fakes?

I also believe there are genuine pieces of this ilk out there. They are quite nice--heavy enameled badges. I bought an entire collection in 1998-9 which were stunning in their colors and construction.

Timmey,

I believe these were available at least from 1993-94, probably earlier. I also know that many submarine and other Navy badges are made at the same place, but these badges are not exactly my speciality.
