Fake Inventor of the Soviet Union?
I bought an Inventor of the Soviet Union-badge and a perestroika-pin from an online auction. The pin seems kosher, but I have a few doubts about the IotSU. The award feels very light, and the connecting ring between the ribbon and medal doesn't seem original (it's made of an yellow metal). Also, it seems that the rocket/Star Trek triangle is not riveted in straight; there's a gap between the lower left point of the triangle and the laurel. There's very little information on the internet about the IotSU, just that it was established in 1981 and awarded for innovative proposals. Rarity? The swan-like mint mark? Also, the pin has a mint mark that looks like a viking ship! What's this?
I posted pictures on the obverse and reverse of both badge and pin. I quite like the latter! :D Thanks, Stahanov |

Stahanov,
I believe that both are genuine :) The Inventor badge is just one of the many variations. Alexei |

Re: Fake Inventor of the Soviet Union?
Lol, I already threw the Inventor badge into the bottom of my closet in desperation/thinking it was a fake! :) Will have to fish it out and take a closer look again.

Re: Fake Inventor of the Soviet Union?
A seller offered to me this badge. I do not like it.
The arrow seems not good in colour. The wreath has cherries on it (?) and the hammer and sickle is broader. Any opinion on it? |

Re: Fake Inventor of the Soviet Union?
It's real. As Alexei pointed out above, there are many variations and this is just one of them. They were very cheaply made and I got one with documentation (see post #7 for similar) for the specific invention the recipient came up with (it was more of an improvement on an existing invention) and the set was $10 with shipping about a year ago when prices were higher. They are very common so don't let the seller tell you - or attempt to charge you otherwise.:)
