South Africa and Pro Patria Medals - The Soviet Military Awards Page Forum

These are not Soviet medals, or communist African medals, but they are interesting nonetheless. These are two South African medals from the 1970s given to SA troops fighting the communists in Angola.

The one on the left is the Southern Africa Medal and was struck in NICKEL FROM A CAPTURED SOVIET TANK.

The right medal is the "Pro Patria" medal and was also issued for this conflict for 55+ days of combat exposure. It was subsequently issued in the 1980s also for combating terrorism outside of the Republic of South Africa.
