Re: defence of documents
Thank you again, Paul.
Would it be too much of an favor to ask what the rest of Lance Corporal Andrei's name is (I could make out that much) and any other pertinent information I might want to put on an information sheet for viewers? Phillip

Re: defence of documents
Wow! I always wondered if those guys got the credit they deserved.:D
I also have an MPVO badge, but I guess that's another group - VV MVD, I think. Many thanks, Phillip

Caucasus Liberation Medal w Document Hero of USSR
I just recently purchased this Caucasus Liberation medal with a document. As most of you already know the Caucasus Medal is not one of the most rare of Soviet Defence medals. However, the document to this medal was signed by Ivan Davydovich Chernopyatko (Чернопятко Иван Давидович). Major Chernapyatko was awarded his Gold Star (#101) at Lake Hasan in 1938. If you can read Russian, you can find his Bio description on warheroes.ru What caught my attention was that this man was wounded 4 times in battle and was still able to command his regiment in battle. He was also a commanding officer of the sniper battalion that was in charge of protecting the Allied delegation in Tehran (The Teheran Conference). There was a possiblity of an assasination attempt on Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill in Teheran, so Chernapyatko (his sniper batallion was a part of NKVD branch of Soviet military) was partly responsible for the safety of 3 main Allied leaders of WW2. How cool is that:)
PS Unfortunately, Major Chernopyatko died in the plane crash in 1947. He was coming back from Japan where he served as a witness in the Tokyo Military Trial. He was only 33 years old. Last edited by slava1945; 06-19-2010 at 02:26 PM. |

That is indeed pretty cool!
What I noticed was the type of wear condition on the document. It was clearly something that was highly valued by the owner. Seems you feel the same way. Congratulations, I wonder how many would miss something like that? bib |
