Offered on ebay for...................................US $895.00 as a start, and BIN price of Modest US $1,100.00

This statement of the seller:

"ALL THE DECORATIONS ARE 100% ORIGINAL AND AUTHENTIC. NO "HIGH QUALITY REPLICAS" OR "MUSEUM COPIES". THE ORDERS HAVE "MONETNIJ DVOR" MINT MARKS AND SERIAL NUMBERS. THE DECORATIONS ON THE RIGHT SIDE ARE PROFESSIONALLY (PROBABLY BY THE TAILOR) ATTACHED TO THEIR HANGERS, NO SLOPPY "FAKING" OR "TOURIST ITEM ASSEMBLY".

But when you look at the awards you get a  face. IF it was real, then this person has AT LEAST a 34 years of service (See Soviet-afghan medal).

Where is an order of Lenin? The medal for international soldier?

I find the medal set very weird...and with errors in the order of preeminence of medals (error are still possible but quite rare with generals as far as I could see on photos). And at least, as Tal said, 34 years of duty...1945-1979 1st year of Afghanistan?
and see together Red ban , Red Ban of Work and Glory 3rd...+ OGW...I won't bet a buck on it...

Answer from the seller

Yes that is MY uniform, glad you discuss it, I can tell you it was bought in Latvia by a business companion of mine from a man that he have bought several uniforms from. I dont know if the setup is realistic or not, but I can not - and I dont want to either - remove a medal just because 'experts from the west' think it is unrealistic.

It did not have any Order of Lenin, why should I remove it, since if there had been one, it had most likely been a wearers copy, and there is no use removing a such one and thus destroying the set just to earn 75 USd from selling it.

And, Mr Tal Inbar, what is so fun with the statement that this uniform is not a reproduction made up from single medals, as is often seen on eBay? I am honest, this uniform was purchased like this, I have not done any changes to it whatsoever.

I have found no errors (checking with the 1988 issue of the regulations) in the placement of the medals, apart from the Berlin medal which should be next to Warszawa medal.

I will gladly answer any questions (at least try to!), send images or whatever, I have nothing to hide.

Best regards,
Patrik

Patric,

Welcome to the forum. I will tell you why your statement was a little funny - because this group of awards is MADE UP. The combination is ALMOST correct, but there are some strange things about it - and of course an order of Lenin for a long military service such as this is mandatory.

BTW, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS WEARER's COPY FOR ANY SOVIET ORDER.

No one accussed you that this is a reproduction made up from single medals, but the truth is that it is EXACTLY that kind of uniform you ften see on eBay. Again , your honesty is NOT in question, The uniform which was purchased like this by you, however, is very questionable.

Okay, is there anything else obviously wrong with it, that I have not noted but should add to the description or be aware of?

I decided to remove the thing about tourist item, since doubts have been expressed about the authenticity of the awards combination.

With all respect - I thought this item was a 100% authentic uniform with the awards of the real owner (the seller said that it was possible a general called Shevchenko owned it, does anyone know anything on the in fact three generals with that name?) and what reason did I have to doubt that? Two red banners is still quite high awards, and the seller has never before sold me anything but high quality items.

Please note all, that I will still try to sell this without any major change in price. I have a girlfriend and a dog to feed, please respect me.

regards,
Patrik
