Fake or Not???

I have my suspicions about this one. The insgnia and shoulder boards look like they are reproduction and the collar liner is definately not orignial...this is the description.

This is an original pre-war, Russian M-1936 combat uniform. It is a small size and while the uniform has some stains and is somewhat faded, it is authentic and very difficult to obtain. Included with the uniform is an original metal water bottle and enlisted leather belt plus boots. The boots have probably been resoled but are original as well. I obtained these from a college in Estonia a few years ago.

Any thoughts?

Difficult to...

...judge just by the jpeg. Its an nco, and those usually show real wear. But it could be fine too. Will need close up examination.

Hard to tell from image. Keep in ind that all the parts - tunic, colla tabs, rifles/target insignia and triangular pip are all for sale as repros for re-eneactors.

That is my point. from the photo the uniform looks too new looking. Look at the shine on the leather of the boots...after nearly 70 years????

The insignia is available as you say for reenactors and it is turning up more and more, especially on Ebay.

The boots look exactly like a pair I have. They are nice but not WW2 vintage at all.

Other then that I agree, more close ups are needed to say for sure. But M35 uniforms makes me look three times before I buy... Lots of good fakes out there. The rifle/target are more often fakes than real, or at least those I have seen.

Now just to play devil's advocate, some sellers sell a set which has an original item "upgraded" with some non-period stuff. Say a M43 tunic with later breeches and belt.

In the end looks like a hands on is needed for the tunic. If the colours are truely as shown that is a mighty odd fading pattern. Did the guy run around for years wth his shir tucked in the front of his pants like Uncle Fester?? Or is it a bad attempt a fake ageing??

Shawn, it's never a bad thing to start thinking it's fake and let the uniform "prove" you wrong....or perhaps I just see fakes under every stone :D

This type of lost colour on only the top half could perhaps be made by leting it hang on a line in the sun and forget to "burn" the other side. Sounds pretty stupid when I read this back, but I know a guy who "ages" his newly made budenovkas this way....

Guys,

Don't you find it strange that the buttons are so patinated, yet the collar insignia looks brand new? Just being my usual sceptic, I guess...
