Prize Medals Of The All-Union Agricultural Exhibition.

Some of the OLD members remember my question about the contribution to economy medals. Now, when the forum is slightly bigger than 7 members;) I will start a new and expanded thread.

Those medals were awarded to participants of the All-Union National Economy Achievements Exhibition, for specific contribution to the economy.

I would like to know about the BDHX (or VDNKh) medals. What is the NAME of each medal, dates of issue for variations, etc.

The Variations are my division.

Lets start with GOLD medal from 1939:

I will call it Large gold medal - Type 1

Note the S/N:

Type 2. Same design as the 1939 gold medal, but no S/N and no "1939" on the medal: (Green ribbon, Screwback)

Type 4, Var 1- Silver medal, no s/n

So, the medals and variations are:

Agriculture exhibition medal (large medal, 1939 type)

Type 1:1939 Large Gold medal, with S/N - Screwback.

Type 1 Var 1: same as Type 1 , but pinback.

Type 2: Large Gold medal, without S/N, no "1939" -
Screwback.

Type 2 Var 1: same as Var. 2, but pinback.

Type 3: Copper medal, screwback, no S/N.

Type 3 Var 1: same as Type 3, Pinback.

Type 4: 1939 Silver medal, with S/N, Screwback.

Type 4 Var 1: Same as Type 4 but pinback.

Type 5: Silver medal, no S/N, no "1939" on the medal,
Screwback

Type 5 Var 1: Same as type 5, but pinback.



Small medal:

Type 1: Made of gold - screwback.

Type 1 Var 1:same as type 1, but pinback

Type 2: coper, screwback

Type 2 Var 1: coper, pinback

Type 3: nickel alloy, screwback

Type 3 Var 1: same as type 3 but pinback.



Laureate BDHX - only one variation known to me.

This is the back of a type 4 (your description) with serial Number.

I have a number of these they are attractive medals. I was unsure of them and brought them for their artistic merit.

Well I went back to the antiques shop today and had another look.

Wow they are different when viewed close up. (no wonder the prices was not the usual couple of dollars.)

I always like the design of this medal but there is little information on them and seem to be largely forgotten.

To find two fantastic minters is great, in gold is even better!

If I use your scale Tal the large one is a Type 2 with S/N.

The small one is a Type 3 but in Gold with S/N.

They also have mint marker tags on them which I have not seen before.

Some sort of lion ? on one side and 375 on the other.

Very nice. I don't think the medals are made of gold, judging from the scans. Regarding the "Lion' = never saw this! Are you SURE it was not placed by the seller?

Just a guess, but I would tend to think that this little tag might be an official seal that indicates/certifies the gold contents of the medal.
