Re: Russia gives awards to Uzbek veterans of Afghanistan...
Esteban,
Current awards are unissued mint spares that were manufactured back then. As far as I know, no Soviet awards have been officially minted since the end of the Soviet Union. Marc |

I´ve never been good at the serial numbers range thing, so then here´s the following question. Which range would those RSs given out be?

Esteban,
Most likely, they would follow regular numerical order. It means they are probably in the 8,4xx,xxx range. Marc |

Very interesting.
Although I doubt it I wonder if we will see the revival of some more old Soviet awards? |

Commissar,
This is not a "revival of old Soviet awards", it is catch up awards for actions during the Soviet period, which is rather different in meaning. Marc |

Re: Russia gives awards to Uzbek veterans of Afghanistan...
Marc, I have seen some of these "catch up" awards in the market. I was wondering how the Russian authorities know who needs to receive these catch up awards and how often do they do this? In other words, have there been periods of doing this or do they just do it all along?

Bogdan
As far as I know, there is a department that tracks down veterans still alive who have not yet received their awards (or part of them). There are regular ceremonies held in the Kremlin when those catch-up awards are presented to an ever thinning crowd. Marc |
