Agreed, this is a much better quality medal than the other main one.

Anyone have an idea who issued this screwback? It also has a document - not pictured. It is not as ugly as some (pictures of those follow). It is not as "cookie cutter" as some others.

And that screw nut I have seen on post-1991 official awards - but I'm pretty sure this badge is not.

Mine has a different, simpler screw nut. The accompanying 2001 document was awarded "by order of the North Caucasus MIlitary District Commander" and was awarded "as a badge of excellence."

This Badge "For Service In The Caucasus" (Знак «За Службу на Кавказе») comes in Gold and Silver variations and was founded on the 17th August 2001 by the Ministry Of Defence by ministerial order #367 and is awarded for "military service in the North Caucasus Military District, for initiative and diligence shown in the performance of official duties, as well as taking part in counter terrorism operations in the North Caucasus region of the Russian Federation."

So you guys think this is example is an authentic one? I guess my expectations of quality are higher because of all the incredibly well-made and labor intensive medal and badge work from the Soviet system.

Nonetheless, below is a blank document for this award which is at least as suspect as the badge was to me. With home printing quality at an all-time high, I seldom make judgments about paper items and simply got the document because it came with the badge.
