According to PMD's book it falls within the Type 1 variation 3 : The lowest serial number observed for Type 1 variation 3 is 14,229 and the highest is 61,250.

Source: The comprehensive guide to Soviet Orders and Medals, Paul McDaniel and Paul J. Schmitt, 1997, page 141.

According to Mondvor's website (which is continuously updated), it also falls in the range of T1V3. However, observed numbers are quite different than the ones from MacDaniel.

Here are the ranges from Mondvor:

T1V1: 10 - 617
T1V2: 1945 - 6240
T1V3: 5421 - 23901

T2 (all variations) : 23972 - 315466

T3: from where T2 stopped to 2618333

Is it 1st or 2nd class?

Whichever class; it is a Type 3, no variations.

to be honest i believe this type 3 OGPW-s have minor variations. Some samples have ring around the screwpost, other doesn't have. This is concerning bouth 1 & 2 classes.

Regards,

Lauri

Cleber,

You should browse the forum before asking for ID-ing these orders. They are very common and have been discussed at length. You should also get some book such as Paul McDaniel's Encyclopedia. Finally, you can check either Art's site or the Mondvor site, where all known types and their variations are illustrated with good quality.

I'm having trouble identifying this 2nd class. Looks like a Type 3 but the hammer and sickle aren't gold-plated but brown (patina) maybe? Possible that the H&S are made of brass instead of gold?
