Courier service/special communications cap?
This dark blue cap was a part of a larger headwear lot I purchesed last year.
It seems to be a visor cap for the courrier service. The only information I have found are here: http://www.vedomstva-uniforma.ru/mun...vaz/index.html indicating it's Latvian "special communications" and here: http://undertheredstar.com/Communications.htm - I have tried to contact the author but no luck. The cap itself seems to be some sort of authentic soviet-made visor cap from 1970. It has standard Army buttons. Any thoughts? |

Re: Courier service/special communications cap?
It seems to be an original 1949 (introduced) cockade of the Department Of Special Communications Under The Soviet Of Ministers Of The Latvian SSR - nothing to do with NKVD nor junior to it - directly under the ministers.
As for the cap? Somehow I doubt such a small department was making its own caps so they used an ample supply.

Re: Courier service/special communications cap?
But the articleindicates that there should be also the star cocageon the cap'scrown. Also, it suggests that the cap should have black band. I know that it was quite common that non-military caps had different colours than they should, but still I have some doubts about the cap.

Re: Courier service/special communications cap?
The cap is "questionable" but not flat out wrong.
A strong source and provenance would make it less questionable, as usual.
