Russian M31 back pack
Hi,
I just got this Russian M1938 back pack. It is a fresh find from a barn in Poland. It looks like it could use a little cleaning as it is filthy. Is there any way I could get the stains off the cloth and the rust off the metal parts? I am not sure what the best method would be. Thanks, Eddie Last edited by Gagarin61; 07-02-2009 at 09:09 PM. |

It is filthy.
But each stain has its own story! :D Its a great piece of history, I don't think you should clean it, mostly because you may risk damaging the bag, but it looks great. |

Re: Russian M31 back pack
Hi Eddie, I would give the pack a brush down with a stiff clothes brush and leave it at that.
Washing it is a non starter due to the leather parts. There are commercial rust removers, but if you remove the rust from the buckles etc, then the new clean metal parts will look at odds with the pack. Cheers, Ade.

Re: Russian M31 back pack
i think this kinda thinks look the best with the ageing showing on it.:thumbsup
if it were mine , i would leaf it this way. i may consider doing some thing to prefent further rusting of the buckels. such as a sealant or some grease (witch can stain on its own).:idea Ser-g |

Re: Russian M31 back pack
I agree. I think I will just leave it alone. The stains and the rust do give the backpack character.
