Re: How to display Soviet awards

Some neat items there; cutout WB, PAB, FAK1&2, and a very nice Silesian Eagle (screwback?). What did you keep as your prized possessions?

Not my field, in fact I don't collect German awards, but it is a great display.

Sorry, Eric. That was supposed to be a lot more subtle than it came out.

Re: How to display Soviet awards

All these Imperial and not so Imperial "Central Powers" goodies are really nice but you're only going to set me off seeking out buying them again! I only have 52 of them so far so there are so many more I have to get and seeing how beautiful they are will only make me spend more money! Imperial Bulgarian though I have a nice pile.... I am very prone to hoarding most things but I can't afford to focus on everything all the time. You lucky folks!

Re: How to display Soviet awards

I actually didnt keep many and yes the silesian eagle badge was a screw back with beautiful enamel. I kind of used my German collection(that i picked up relatively cheap at flea markets by today's standards) to finance my Soviet collection. For example my order of Lenin,Rkka XX, and a few other high end medals and orders. Looking back i would say i am more happy with my soviet medals and orders then when i had a collection of medals and orders from different countries. Although i still collect medals of the middle eastern conflicts i mainly focus my time on Soviet Union.

Re: How to display Soviet awards

Speaking of Middle Eastern conflict medals not too long ago I picked up a British GSM with Canal Zone and Cyprus Bars in its box for £12 - That was a BARGAIN! I've also had a GSM with Palestine 1945-45 bar mounted and on the wall for a number of years (which didn't cost anything). If you want to mix Middle East conflicts with Partisans of the GPW you can't go wrong researching "Mad Jack" Churchill. Nearly everything else I have framed and displayed is from one communist nation or another apart from a US WW2 Pilot grouping, a Japanese certificate, The Tsar's autograph with a medal depicting him and not on "display" but currently airing over one side of my four poster bed is a large swastika banner as it's previous owner abused it. There are so many interesting things out there and just so little wall space. It's not like making frames and displays is free either.

Re: How to display Soviet awards

I love GSM's I have the Palestine 1945-48 myself. The qaulity of medals and orders those days were just amazing compared to medals today. American medals post Korean war just seem to be junk to me in design and quality and the quanities of mass produced medals just doesnt make me intrested in buying any. Atleast Great Briton still has some standards but i would say even there quality and design has went down as well. As for displaying things unfortionetly i do not have so much room to spare so i prefer a small collection of good items as opposed to cases and cases of just common items laying around. This is one reason i decided to just mainly focus on Soviet orders and medals. In the past I had cases everywhere of coins medalsand misc things from all over the world. Now I only have 1 case of great medals instead.
