Abkhazi and Adjara

I finally squeezed them all in.

Badges with "h" with two humps on top line are adjara. (Two on the right)(That letter is "R" in Georgian.) Top is first convocation 1938 bottom is 2nd or 3rd (1947 or 1951).

Badge with "9" with two loops is abhkazi. (Two on the left)(That letter is approximately "J" or "DZh" in Georgia.) Top is believed to be first convocation 1938 bottom is 2nd or 3rd (1947 or 1951).

More Abkhazi information

On the top abhkazi badge the small star under the enamel does not show well because it is an outline of a star. The star on the badge below is solid and shows.

The detail in the badge on the lower right, specifically the circular design element in the upper left corner is amazing. Very nice.

Back to Azerbaijan

Attached is a scan of TsIK badges from Azerbaijan. The chronological order appears to go upper right, lower right [Marked (Kh-M) and (875)], upper left, lower left. The order of the two almost identical is uncertain though. They differ based on flat reverse or mirror/relief reverse. (My scan of the reverse didn't work because of the pins.)

Azerbaijan used Arabic until approximately 1928, then switched to Latin script. Cyrillic was used throughout the period though.

Upper right before 1928, Lower right 1928 or later based on proof mark - (proof mark changed about 1927 from 84/96 to 875/1000) There is an earlier badge of the same style with (84) proof marks.

There were 8 convocations for TsIK in Azerbaijan 1921, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 35.

Which means these could be 25 (27 with 84 proof not shown here), 29, 31, 35. (Or maybe not, which is why we do research and show up here at the forums.)

Aharim,

If you own these, or have access to them, any chance of showing 1 badge per post, front and reverse, so as to utilize the entire file size? If you need help re-sizing please PM me.

Azerbaijan TsIK - Type 1 (or so)

Attached is the front of the Azeri with arabic.

Eventually I will be able to fit them together.

Some details:

14 mm height
27 mm length

Measures exclude staff. Badge in silver unmarked. I will show fronts first til I can get two images to merge. In addition, I am scanning on glass flat scanner rather than taking a photo, so definition on reverse is not the best.

RE Mekhonoshin, (See 31.1.1.) some of the badges he illustrates, I acquired from his sources but not this one. We shared information re history of republics. The problem is differentiating by placement of rays. I have sold off over 80 badges that might have not really been dupes according to his count. (Oops!) I only counted 255 different types/variations when I differentiated.

For further scans I will try to enlarge more. THis came in at 28k.

Azerbaijan TsIK - Type 3 or 4 or so

Mekhonoshin identifies 5 different TsIK badges. Type 2 - 4 look alike but differ based on markings 84 for silver (before 1928) or 875 for silver (1928 and later). For Type 2 and 3 he shows marks of SB for master/manufacturer.

The picture attached for which I still can't do reverse has markings: (Kh-M) and (delta-Kokoshnik-875) Kokoshnik (womans head - not the worker in cap) faces right. Behind the head is greek delta, in front 875. THus the marks differ from Mekhonoshin.

XM (Kh-M) is artists/artisans collective in Moscow. I have a tour guide of 1928 which places them on Kuznetsov Most, where the finance ministry was. The name comes from the former site of the armorors guild, an appropriate location for a jewellers/metal workers collective. The tour guide said the best works of metal come from those shops.

This picture is still small 28k but I will increase to 300 dots on the next.

Azerbaijan TsIK - Type 4

This badge could be 31.1.4. It has no proof marks because it has relief reverse. The previous badges had flat/plane reverse. This is the so-called "mirror reverse" as McDaniel describes for orders.

The reverse did not scan so we have only the obverse for now.

Dimensions

I forgot the dimensions on the last two.

Both are 15 x 27.5 mm excluding staff
