Re: Ushakov 6821

Sergei,

You are right, the pictures are simply :thumbsdown

I believe that the suspension is a fake. I don't overly like the chain, although it seems be looking alright.
Regarding the medallion, I am sitting on the fence. On the back, the first 2 and the last digits look OK, then the "2" is almost grotesque. I like the front, apart from Ushakov's puffy left eyelids.
The only thing I can tell for sure is that, at best, the ring was broken and the medal was grubbily repaired.

Re: Fake Ushakov Medals

Based on these pictures, I tend to like the medallion despite the weird "2". The suspension and the chain are suspicious to say the least, but I think the chain may still have some original links.

Re: Fake Ushakov Medals

Thanks, gentlemen,
I thought Ushakov's suspension should always have the eyelets for the chain (at the top of suspension) soldered to the back of the suspension plate, not between the two plys. Is this correct?

Re: Fake Ushakov Medals

Marc, Alexei,
Thanks. I know the pictures are lousy, I have a new camera but I need to learn how to handle light.
My impression is that these suspensions are used on modern Ushakov medals of RF. Not that I've seen one in life, only scans.
Pity the medal will have to go, I liked the medallion.
Thanks,
Sergei

Re: Fake Ushakov Medals

It also seems to have the same problem many of the fakes of this one have - the serial number is too deeply pressed (right half) and the anchor has too pronounced a "spine." Just an opinion since I'm going on reference material only here.

Re: Fake Ushakov Medals

It's an earlier "crooked nose" fake.

Hi,

what do you think about this Ushakov medal with s/n: 15.180.
According to Mondvor 15.651 is the highest observed serial number.

The last upper chain on the left side is most likely an replacement.

best regards and thanks
Andreas

Re: Fake Ushakov Medals

The last scan is a little out of focus, but looks good. There are some replacement links in the chain.
