Christophe,
I would have loved to have been able to take the trip to Moscow for the Victory Parade with you but unfortunatly work commitments and my upcoming Exams means I will not be able to this Year.
But this would certainly be of Interest in following Years!

Eddie.

Victory Day --- May 9 -- In Song!

I want to share an interesting web site that has, among many other things, the music and text for the wildly and forever popular Soviet song "Victory Day". You can read and sing along in Russian or English or one or two other languages. The words are passionate and eternal, even if the post-war reality came up sadly short. Since Victory Day is soon approaching, I thought this might be a good time to post this.

I think this is a legal link for this forum. I hope it is. If you have Pop-up Stopper or something like it, you may have to disable it. It prevented the Karaoke version from coming up when I clicked on it, and that's the one you will want, until I did a temporary disable. Here it is:

http://karaoke.ru/song/543.htm

I know that I will be attending the national Victory Day ceremonies at Vake Park here in Tbilisi, as I did in 2002. It is really inspiring to see these aging men and women turned out in all of their old military regalia or wearing rafts of medals on worn-out old suits and dresses. One of the good things here is the honoring of their veterans. Heck, I doubt if any of my kids even know when the war ended. Besides 1945 that is. Maybe that.

I'll be taking a lot of pictures that day and, if there is any interest here, I would be glad to share them on this forum. Or maybe I could put up an album on Ofoto. I hope you enjoy this and that we all remember that these folks really did help to save the world. That often gets lost in the polemics.

Best to all, and have a happy Victory Day.

1945 Victory Parade

Alright, I'm having some dificulties. I finally got a copy of the 1945 Victory Parade video, and I am trying to figure out the name of one of the marches that they played. If anyone has a complete list of all the marches that they played during it it would be greatly appreciated. To be more specific however the march I am looking for is the one that was played most repeatedly, but i don't know if that helps with narrowing it down. I recorded a short clip of it if anoyne who can help me needs a sample of it. Thank you.

Justin.

Marches of Victory Parade

In Victory Parade participated joint military orchestra of 1400 (1000 pipers among them) Chief conductor was general-major S.A. Chernetskiy with two supporting conductors on the flanks. One of them was V. Agapkin author of famous march “Proshianie Slavianky”. Besides those three there were about 15 bandmasters who were helping with different parts of the orchestra. Because of heavy rain drums were getting wet very quickly and were constantly replaced to dry ones from near by building GUM were they were stored for the parade.

It’s seems that original sound track of the parade was never recorded, because Red Squire was not equipped with microphones. Besides how one can record 1400 musicians marching on the huge open space. But one other hand they may had mobile microphones for the parade. This is unclear. But anyhow in Victory parade movies were used studio recordings.

Three versions on Victory Parade movie exists. Most common one it’s restored and edited in 1985 for 40th anniversary b/w version about 50 minutes long. Second color version restored in 2000, but it’s only 17 minutes long. So much original color footage survived. And third one it’s original full b/w version 90 minutes long.

Two out of three movie versions have different sound tracks.
Marches you are asking about could be

“Slavisia” M. Glinka
“Vstrechniy marsh” ili “Egerskiy marsh”.

I’m assuming you understand Russian, take a look and see if it’s one in there you are looking for

If you understand Russian you can also read these about the parade.
