And it looks like this fleet got awarded with the title "Sevastopol" during the WWII.

Hello Riley,
I was busy when answering your post and now that I am more relax and have more time to look at it and think at what I wrote, I am not so sure by what I meant!

I hope someone with more knowledge on that topic will correct me and clarify this... but I think that what I had in mind when I posted was that this fleet had been awarded the title "Sevastopol" during the WWII for its important role in the defense/liberation of the city.

From what I have learned, it was common for units to be honored with title of cities they defended/liberated. The same way, they could be honored by receiving awards.

By example, I know of a regiment that was called the "xxxth Air Defense Artillery Regiment". Then, they played a major role in the re-capture of Odessa and became the "xxxth Odessa Air Defense Artillery Regiment".

Later in the war, they got honored with the Red Banner and the Order of Suvorov III class and they were then referred ar the "xxxth Odessa Red Banner Order of Suvorov III Class Air Defense Artillery Regiment".

So, my thought (I could be wrong) is that the fleet for which that badge was issued (I don't know the fleet name, but seems to be cyrillic letters for "K CH F") played an important role in the defense/liberation of Sevastopol and was honored the same way... in that case, this would be related to the Hero Title of the city of Sevastopol as they participated in the fights, but at same time, it's different things. The unit or the fleet was not the recipient of the title Hero.

Sorry if I created some confusion... I start myself to be confused. Time to go to sleep I guess!

By the way, I wanted to tell you that I really appreciate to read you. For a relatively new member, you are posting so much and contribute a lot to keep the forum alive. Thanks! :thumbsup
