You should post the asking price!

William-

Perhaps the document was stored in a very damp/humid environment, where the photo reacted to the dampness and became wet. Over time in storage, the dampness from the photo leaked through the document, making the discoloration mark.

Or, the document got wet, and the photo took the longest to dry, causing the water mark.

Just a theory, but I'd bet that one of the two was the case.

Dave,

You could be right on this one. I just find the pattern of this damage very strange.

Fifty "crack-smokin'" Six thou??!?

WOW!!!

I know that an original Traktor Lenin runs usually between $10K/15K - $25K (older times - recent times). BUT $56K?!?!?

I know that the presence of a document is quite rare for these types of awards, BUT... $56000. WOW!

William, you said there was a group? By chance did it also include a "Triangle" or two?! Maybe a few T1V1 BoH?

I am just amazed at the arbitrary prices for these pieces that are set in today's world...

I understand that this is a rather rare piece, but for $56,000 one can possibly buy an Ushakov 1st class that had only 37 individual awards...

Don't be so excited!

The seller could have asked a million dollars. SO?
It is very high, of course, but any seller can ask whatever price. The asked price does not ALWAYS reflects the real market value.

I agree,

The seller's asking price doesn't mean much. What matters - how much a potential buyer is willing to pay.

I assume if this set were to sell - the price would be reduced substantially.

I believe that... I remember back several years ago when there was a certain HSU group being sold by a private collector. Asking price was $17K, but with just one e-mail I got him down to $14K. I believe it sold for around $11K eventually to a certain US dealer.

Now that dealer (who bought the first group) had a group was "POR". I asked him the price, and he quoted me $20K. I thought that was a bit steep, and having dealt with him before (and knowing that he rarely budged on his prices!) I didn't make him a counteroffer. I would have been happy to pay $12K for the group, as it was very nice and extremely rare.

Later, I heard he sold the group for $8500... Nearly $12K off his original price! Oh well....

Anyway, William is right... The guy probably thinks that if he can find a sucker to pay him the price he is asking, great. If not, he can still make someone feel like they got a GREAT deal by selling it for 2/3 that price! :)
